Here is a blurb from Veterinary Information network

    Treatment/Management/Prevention:
    SPECIFIC
    1) Selegiline (Anipryl): 11 0.5-1.0 mg/kg PO daily: Morning administration is recommended, particularly in dogs with sleep/wake cycle disturbances. Response to therapy may be noted within a few days, although typically most owners report improvements within the first two weeks of therapy. At one month the response rate was reported to be 77%. Selegiline is an irreversible inhibitor of the enzyme monoamine oxidase (MAO), specifically the B type. In the brain, MAO plays a role in the break down of catecholamines (dopamine and norepinephrine and epinephrine) and serotonin. Other possible pharmacological effects of selegiline include increased synthesis of dopamine and decreased re-uptake of dopamine from the synapse. L-amphetamine and L-metamphetamine are metabolites of selegiline which may contribute to the pharmacological effects of the drug. Avoid concurrent treatment with monoamine oxidase inhibitors such as amitraz, meperidine or other opioids, tricyclic or other antidepressants, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

    2) Hill’s Prescription Diet b/d: This diet incorporates antioxidants (mixed tocopherols, vitamin C, beta-carotene, carotenoids, flavenoids) mitochondrial cofactors, and omega-3 fatty acids (EPA, DHA). Antioxidants scavenge and minimize production of reactive oxygen species. The diet has been shown to improve the performance of a number of cognitive tasks when compared to older dogs on a non-supplemented diet, beginning as early as to 2 to 8 weeks after the onset of therapy.

    3) In a laboratory study of older dogs over a 2 year period, environmental enrichment (e.g. housing with another dog, playing daily with toys) was shown to be effective tool for task learning. In fact, the combined effect of an enriched diet and enriched environment provided the greatest improvement in learning ability when compared to the dogs who did not have either dietary or environmental enrichment. 9, 10, 13

    4) Propentofylline (Karsivan): This drug is used in other countries and exerts its beneficial effects via vasodilation and reducing blood viscosity, thus improving blood flow to the brain.

You can speak with your vet to find out if the medications mentioned here are an option with your dog. Consider feeding Hill’s Prescription Diet B/d (brain food)

    Good luck to you.
