I Am Getting a New Dog and Need Tips on Taking Care of It?

I am getting a new puppy in the end of June. My family has only ever had one dog and still has him! He is an old dog and we love him! I have wanted a new puppy for five years and my mom told me on christmas i was getting one in the summer. The puppies were born 5 days ago and if you can, please give me some tips on taking care of it! Thank you!
It is a Shih Apso, a mixed breed

Start training the dog early, and make sure it know you are the boss. Never be mean, but be firm. Use lots of praise to reinforce the behavior you want. You should probably take your dog to an obedience class because they will show you exactly how the train her.

What type of puppy is it? because different dogs need different training. But try crateing (look it up on google) but dogs can’t “hold it” as we say they have to go when they have to go so if they do have an “accident” just give it a good stern “No” and don’t let the dog see you cleaning up the “accident” and always praise it with a treat or a cuddle or something whenever it’s been good or done something you wanted. if you need more help just go to a libary and get a book about your type of dog they help alot.

depends on what kind of dog it is..but your gunna wanna puppy proof your home….get toys, bedding, the right food if its large…get large breed puppy….i recommend kong toys..you can put treats in them and it will give the pup somting stimulating to do for a few hours…if you have other pets.know if there good with other animals. you should take it outside after it eats, plays, naps, and drinks….pups have to go a lot…even if you just took it outside…in 5 mins it MIGHT have to go again….hope this helps

Research all you can about the breed of dog, about crate trainning and discipline is key to raising a calm ********** puppy. Also look into dog foods because diet is also important. Here are some sites that will help you. There is no way anyone can give you all the info you need in one message. I will leave you with three websites. One for discipline and exercise, the second for crate trainning and that last is an video on the truth about dog food.
    Hope this helps, Peace,
    Aeries.
