Read the site below in the puppy section. The information is accurate. Be sure to get your puppy all his or her shots and de-sex them. Good luck.

Make sure you can afford your dog. I work at a vet and see people get dogs all the time that they can not afford. So their dogs/cats go without treatment for medical problems that they have.

First off MAKE SURE he knows outside is his bathroom.
if he starts looking like he’s gotta go, let him out.
Um, besides that, dogs are pretty easy to have around.
Most dogs love table food, and dog food, so they’re not hard to feed.
    DON’T feed them chocolate.
Once in a while a small dish of milk is fine as a snack, but too much could give them worms.

Don’t take them for car rides too often, because that spoils them and they expect to go every time.
Um, dogs are so much like people it’s unbelievable, so talk to them like a person. Dogs need plenty of love too.
    And dogs need attention.
If you want a friendly dog you have to give them all the love you can.

no spoiling as a pup, make sure they respect you before you start coddling it. then do whatever you want. take your dog on a long walk before entering your home. then you enter your home first, this will make them respect you home, and see it as yours not theirs. don’t get mad about accidents, then they know how to push your buttons. for even more info, watch Dog Whisperer on the National Geographic channel, or read books by Cesar Millan. Feed the dog No Grain Dog Food, Canidea is a great one. kongs are great toys, No Rawhides Ever!

No matter how mad you get, NEVER EVER call your dog to come and punish it.
Train the recall by putting your dog on a light weight line, letting it wander to the end, then call its name give the command come in a happy voice and reel in like a fish the entire time praising. Once the dog is to you rub him/her down praise, give a treat. And do it again.
Eventually you will have a dog that will come when called.
Also do not inter change words – sit down, lie down. Use one word for each action you want the dog to do. And if the dog is lying on the couch don’t tell him down, he’s already down you want him to get “OFF”.
A good leader is one that is fair, firm and consistent.

probably the primary thing you want to establish and ask yourself first before anything, like before getting the dog is, do you have the time for that dog? If the dog will be alone for most of the day, lots of misbehaving can occur and drive you crazy. Just as long as you know you have the time and love for it, you’ll be fine.
    !Hope this helped :P

Make sure you have the money to properly care for a dog.
Vet expenses are $500. – $1200. the first year.
Pups should remain it the litter until 12 weeks old to learn social skills such as bite inhibition.
    Patience and lots of love.
    Praise and reward.
    Google positive reinforcement training
    House train. Crate train.
Do not hit. Do not rub the dog’s nose in it.
Do not let the pup do anything you do not want it to do as an adult.
Pups have lots of energy. Pups must be walked and exercised every day.
    Feed raw or home cooked.
    If feeding kibble go to
Select a premium 5 or 6 star food.
    Enroll in an obedience class.
Love your pup with all your heart.

I would say the first thing is to make sure you have enough time and money to keep a dog. If you don’t, then I would suggest you wait ’til you do. Also:
Have ALOT of patience. Dogs, especially puppies will chew, nip, *** where they shouldn’t, etc. Also, training won’t happen in a day, it could take weeks to train a dog to obey you like it should.
Always reward them when they do something good, even the smallest things, especially in the beginning
Don’t feed them chocolate, too many grapes, and keep household plants out of reach. Alot of household plants are actually poisonous to dogs
When in doubt, call your veterinarian. Many people wait ’til the last minute, and that sometimes has very bad consequences
Always have fresh water out for them. Every day, change it even if the water bowl is still decently full.
Try going on a walk every day. And if you can or want to, you could join a dog park. If your dog is nice to other dogs, you can take him/her there and he will play all his excess energy away, playing with the other dogs. My dog LOVES the dog park, and is always worn out afterwards :)
And just love on him. Dogs may do bad things, but they ultimately want to make you happy. Whenever I scold my dog, he is the epitome of dejected and always tries to make up my nosing me with muzzle and licking my hand, (Yes, I am a sucker for his puppy eyes) Dogs will love you forever, and forgive you of anything. Trust me, I know. The hard part is living up to the trust they have in you. Good luck!
