Heartland SPCA’s Pet Adoption Center is at full capacity – and more dogs and puppies are coming in every day. Nearly 110 dogs are occupying 93 kennel spaces and dog runs, and another 54 dogs and puppies are residing with foster families. The September Pup Rally is offering half-off dog adoption fees now through Sept. 30, but Heartland SPCA needs to make immediate space to accept more dogs and puppies who need help.
“Lawrence Humane Society has to have their entire shelter cleared out for painting by Monday,” Manager of Admissions and Behavioral Health Lauren Hacker said in a news release. “An Ozark puppy mill closure is also requiring our assistance in the placement of more than 200 Chihuahuas.”
Animal care service areas are at full capacity, with nearly all the runs serving two dogs at a time.
“We really need to stress the urgency facing our area shelters,” Hacker said in the news release. “By adopting a pet from Heartland SPCA, they can offer a second chance to both a new furry family member and an additional pet who can occupy their adoption shelter space.”
The September Pup Rally is offering half-off dog adoption fees now through Sept. 30. The community is invited to catch the spirit with daily dog Facebook chants, win big Wednesdays featuring fee-waived adoptions and commemorative t-shirts for all adopters.
“We need the community’s help now in finding forever homes for these very special dogs,” Hacker said in the news release.
