I have a 12 yr old Cocker Spaniel. I’ve been feeding him Beneful dog food since Friday, and he has thrown up 3 times within the past 2 days. I never knew of the bad quality of Beneful until I starting researching it. I’m a little scared… Should I take him to the vet or start him on a way healthier dog food? If so what would you recommend for a 12 yr old cocker spaniel, who still runs around like a pup?

Also, there’s a Trader Joe’s near by and I have been reading good stuff on the Holistic Dog food they carry, there’s also a Pet Food Express near by. I could use all the help I can get, as to avoid a hefty vet bill.

Yep – Beneful, like all of the grocery store brands…is crap. Poor quality ingredients.

You should consider a vet appt. Throwing up can be the sign of blockage, poisoning, or illness. You should be especially concerned if it’s yellow bile. The dog food may have nothing to do with the vomitting, or may be triggering an underlying illness.
It could also be a food allergy, or tainted pet food. Do not use any more of the Beneful.

this can happen with any new food u give to ur dog..i bought them beneful a couple of times and my young dogs also threw up but the older one had no problem..and they throw it up because theyre stomach is not used to it its nothing bad but i think u should change it if it continues for more than a week
any purina product, perhaps a senior diet, other than Beneful, which has too many dyes and causes allergies.
beneful has too many dyes and caused skin allergies in my dog.better now that weve switched to plain brown purina dry food.
I suggest a new dog food. Try it for a day or so, then if he does not feel better, take him to the vet.
It may just be the food.

Look at the ingredients. I’m positive the first on the list is ‘by products” which is not suitable for human consumption. No health benefits what-so-ever! Trader joes is 100 times better than what he’s on now. We feed our dogs Canidae….other high quality foods are: Merrick, Wellness, Evo Innova, Rachel Ray even came out with a dog food, the ingredients look really good.
